Heavenly Raviolis
The other day I had raviolis that tasted like they came straight from Heaven. They weren't even the fancy kind, they were Chef-Boyardee mini raviolis out of the can. But if it's the most solid thing you've eaten in a week, it tastes pretty damn good, trust me! :) For the entire week before I'd had tiny sips of broth, or protein drinks; tea or apple juice and as much water as I could manage. The night before my raviolis I'd realized I could steam some cauliflower and smash it up as finely as possible with butter. I was so excited until I started to eat it, and found I could barely get any down before it became totally cold. So by the time I got to the raviolis, and realized the sauce & pasta were not nearly impossible to chew up & swallow... They seemed almost as if they were the best thing I'd ever tasted! :)

So I had my surgery on the 1st of this month. I don't remember much about that day, just bits and pieces of my boyfriend Jeff being there encouraging me, patiently trying to figure out things I was trying to tell him when I couldn't talk because my tongue was so swollen. Trying to write stuff down instead but being so drugged up I'd nod off in the middle of what I was writing. Having the nurse encourage me (repeatedly) that I didn't need to worry, everyone who has this kind of surgery feels like they can't breathe.. And her (and then Jeff again later, when I'd forget) showing me on the monitor next to me that my oxygen level was staying between 96 and 98, which was normal, so if I worried I could always check the monitor. From what I'm told it's good I can't really remember much, because I was pretty bad off that first day.

Anyway, ravioli day was exactly a week after the surgery, and since then each day I've felt quite a bit better than the day before... Each day I'm able to take a little less pain medication, each day I'm able to swallow food a little better. I felt so crappy for the first week, that I'm just incredibly grateful to be feeling noticeably better. Speaking of pain meds, the most recent dose is makin me a little loopy, so I'll sign off for now. But just wanted to check in and say I am very optimistic that soon I'll be sleeping soundly, getting back in shape and getting a lot more accomplished (including more blogging!).
